A Bit About Me

Born a war baby in 1942, I grew up in Bristol in the United Kingdom. Although I am now 71 years young, I still enjoy one of the trinkets of my childhood, it always was my all-time favourite, science fiction - obviously! Although remaining dormant for forty years, it was the Eagle comic I think that put me on the road to becoming a science fiction writer, but it was H.G.Wells (among many) that really fired my imagination. I have two younger brothers that I remember were constantly cajoled into being nasty aliens, so that I could eliminate them with my trusty (now rusty) ray gun! We grew up with a passion for motor bikes, my fathers fault, he also had a passion them, my poor mother, she was outnumbered four to one! Strangely I didn't take up writing seriously until I was 52, when a nightmare of cataclysmic proportions impressed itself on my conscious mind to the point where I wrote it down on paper, that dream eventually became my first novel JET!, and the first of what has become a trilogy. Divorced ten years ago, I now have a lovely lady called Maria in Bristol, where my two beautiful daughters Emma and Hayley also live. Am I lucky? I also have four gorgeous grandchildren!

 Reilley’s Sting

A review by Phil Phoenix

After reading the first three pages I thought, “I know where this story is going!” HOW WRONG CAN ONE GUY BE!  As I progressed through the book I began to realise it was far more complex than I had first thought, and apart from the twists and turns of the plot itself, the characters, colloquialisms, and turn of phrase, make this book nothing short of hilarious! As the main character Danny Reilley is something of a Humphrey Bogart, who, being wise enough to stay ahead of his rivals and enemies, takes calculated risks to attain his objectives in life. This is entertaining reading! As a writer I have enjoyed this book, and knowing Capt. Jackson has other Reilley books available I can’t wait to get stuck in! Can we make  a film of this? Please?

Happy reading,

Phil Phoenix.

 Reilley’s War

A review by Phil Phoenix

Reviewing Reilley’s Sting I made the mistake of saying “I know where this story is going“, then having finished the review I wrote, ‘HOW WRONG CAN ONE GUY BE?’ I hate to admit it, but… reading Reilley’s War I thought, “It can’t be as good as the Sting!” Well… here I go again… ‘HOW WRONG CAN ONE GUY BE?’ Capt JJ writes with much knowledge of this subject, and I suspect it was accrued through training and experience rather than normal writer’s research; his title of “Captain” I am certain is not honorary.

If you have read Reilley’s Sting, then Reilley’s War is a book that you must read! As the sequel it has Jackson’s classy sense of humor interwoven with the gripping story line, plus the colorful characters therein. Oh, one more thing… if they make a film of Reilley’s’ Sting, they will have to do Reilley’s War as a follow-on! And finally… Reilley’s War would make an excellent Christmas present, or you could give them Reilley’s Sting, perhaps you could give them both! After that you would surely be in their good books forever!

Happy reading,

Phil Phoenix.

The JET! Trilogy Synopsis

JET!

The Jet Trilogy starts with the main character Sirk Notaani embarking on a voluntary mission, to visit another planet allegedly supporting humanoid life. After crash-landing on arrival he finds his way to a settlement inhabited by dwarfed human life, and discovers he is in Scotland, the only race to survive the holocaust between the UWF and the Cathans. A strange and vast museum confirms his suspicions when he finds artefacts from his own time, and discovers he is over 100,000 years in the future on his own planet! Realising he’d been duped he finds a way to return home, determined to take revenge on those responsible, and hopefully to save the world from pending disaster. The World Council however are not in mood to listen, and Sirk is jeered at by members of the auditorium, but after his final plea fails he makes a snap decision that will change his, and the lives of those he loves forever!

Earth to Earth

By contrast Earth to Earth begins with Sirk and his beautiful wife Cita, and his friends settling on Urf (as the Men call it) to start over, but this time Sirk is determined to make Earth a better planet to live on. Setting up home in the village with the Men they start out on a mission to rebuild their lives, and to improve those of the Men. having found a replicator in the museum the ever resourceful professor Patenil adapts it to produce dome shaped housing for everyone. Cita is thrilled to find she is the cause of a happy occasion, and nine months later she gives birth. After six weeks tragedy strikes when a mysterious disease takes the infants life away, and distraut beyond belief Cita thinks she will never recover, but there is worse to come. The deadly disease that killed their baby now threatens to envelope the village, but Sirk’s quick thinking saves them from certain death. Matters then take a turn for the better, and settling down to everyday life the community begins to thrive and grow.

Eskhatos

The last book in the trilogy starts with Smiffi and Donut, two erstwhile ne’er-do-well scavengers who are part of a team who scour the Universe and time for valuable artefacts. their employers Intergalax then sell them on for vast profit. Commissions earned from these can sometimes make the finder wealthy overnight, and allow the them to literally retire on one find! Deliberately paring Smiffi with Donut, their leader Haak finds his arrangement highly amusing, but Smiffi was not amused! Although he didn’t dislike the little guy, he found Donut hard work, but would see no one harm come to him. Giving them Sector seventeen as a joke, Haak knew it had been cleaned out many years earlier, but the joke back fires on him when they come across the Diamond Dart. Initially Smiffi is content to return to base and claim his reward, but after finding a note in Sirk’s dead hand he realises that he has to return him to his own planet. In a clash with Vadronel, one of his bitter enemies Smiffi almost loses his life, but thanks to Sirk he emerges triumphant! However, you will have to read Eskhatos to find out what happens next, this book draws the trilogy to a close.
